Simple Useful Apps
Simple, focused, free.
This is a small series of apps for iPhone and Mac. Each one does a single useful thing, and each is free in every sense: free on the App Store, free of subscriptions, free of ads, and open source under a permissive license.
They exist because so much software now asks something of you — an account, a fee, your attention, your patience while it becomes something else. A music player slowly turns into a store. A note-taking app grows a feed. These apps ask for nothing and stay what they are.
The apps
The Old Pod A music player for people who own their music.
Voice Takes Coming Soon! A camera for your voice.Chatfolio Coming Soon! Ask your own library.
The idea
- One useful thing. Each app does one thing well and does not aspire to more. There is no roadmap to somewhere else.
- Free in all ways. Free to download, no subscription, no ads, no analytics. Nothing is required beyond a normal Apple account and basic iCloud. The source is open under a permissive license.
- At home on the platform. They try to look and behave like the apps Apple ships — quiet, familiar, and native.
The list will grow only when there is another simple, focused, useful thing worth making. And if the idea inspires someone to make a useful app of their own, even better.
